The LA June Market is on the horizon and one label to watch at Designers & Agents is CARRIE PARRY, the eponymous collection of sophisticated staples-with-a-twist.

The LA born-and-bred Central St. Martin’s grad and former circus costumer creates chic workwear with a twist: think peeks of pop-art prints and sophisticated colorblocking.

Garments do double-duty for those eves you’re headed from desk to drinks.

Boasting shirtdresses that can be worn 4 chic ways, interchangeable elements (collars/cuff/bows) and pieces made for refined layering, the label rethinks transitional dressing, whether day-to-night or season-to-season.

A playful update on timeless style, CARRIE PARRY Fall/Winter 2011 Mrs. Montague contrasts sophisticated silhouettes with pop art prints, vividly textured fabrics and whimsical touches. Inspired by 1930s cult classic The Women and Japanese polka-dot artist Yayoi Kusama and with an emphasis on versatility, the eponymous label’s debut collection introduces the concept of interchangeable and detachable pieces, paying homage in name to the originator of the detachable collar, housewife Mrs. Montague. Designing with careful consideration of social and environmental impact, Mrs. Montague is produced ethically and locally in the USA, sourcing environmentally conscious materials and handspun textiles supporting artisanal communities worldwide.

The weather is getting warmer, which means it’s time for some new Spring ensembles! The CMC has some of the best contemporary brands for women, men, children and home at below retail prices.

Did you know we’re big fans of Cat Power (also the Velvet Underground, Dylan, and you know, tons more)?

Turns out, improbably (given our “shut-in” status), we know someone who’s played and toured with Cat Power for some years and didn’t even know it. (This is what happens when you see peeps “around,” chat with them, but talk endlessly while learning absolutely nothing.)

We saw Gregg Foreman (playing last night with The Meek) at the CONCEPT opening gala and will be interviewing him here soon for IFDaily.

Anyway, apologies, ‘cuz we brought the wrong lens (zoom instead of wide-angle), so here are some crappy pics of CONCEPT opening night. So missed both The Meek and Black Ryder.

No worries, we’ll be back tonight and will post better ones.

About Kami Shade’

Kami Shade’ established herself as a fashion designer in July of 2004.

Born in the diverse and eclectic town of Berkeley, California in 1979, Kami Shade’s family have a strong music industry presence that includes several notable singers, including Al Green and her brother Scorp Dezel, responsible for a variety of Billboards top pop/hip hop induced hits for entertainers such as Nelly, Lil Wayne & The Dream. That being the case, it would seem only natural for her to follow in the footsteps of her family’s musical background.

However, always known for going against the grain, Kami Shade’ developed a passion for another industry: fashion.

Wanting to branch out and experience a world separate from California, Kami traveled to and lived in some of the most rural areas of South Carolina and Georgia. In 2000, Kami Shade’ embarked on a journey back to her California roots and decided to expand her passion of designing and making clothes.

When the notoriety and popularity of the collection reached its zenith in San Francisco, she still was not satisfied being a “local celebrity”.

Kami decided to embark on a new venture: to conquer the Los Angeles fashion industry. So she packed for LA, leaving her home in a well-to-do Berkeley suburb to move into a hotel in Los Angeles.

Not having a job, place to live or local friend/family member in sight, she had one thing: determination.

In only one month, Kami had already headlined her collection in various Hollywood venues and landed her feature editorial article in a LA fashion magazine spread.

Since then, she has also successfully produced some of the most notable fashion events in Los Angeles, and been seen in the fashion industry’s top magazines, including Vogue, Elle Magazine, Lucky Magazine, Apparel News and The Los Angeles Times, to name a few.

She had given various television interviews and guest-starred on NBC, Fox’s Hit TV Show House, MTV, BET and HBO’s Hit Show Entourage.

From making clothing for her Barbie dolls to dressing some of the most notable celebrities including Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Sharon Stone, The Pussy Cat Dolls, Danity Kane, Lauren Conrad & more: what a ride. Kami’s line consists of high-end couture, vintage-inspired swimwear and ready-to-wear collections for all women, tailored to compliment their body, style and personality as well as their budgets.
